Bob Magri

Robert E. Magri, 84, of Street, passed away on July 1 at home under the care of Gilchrist Hospice, with his wife of 56 years, Darlene (Phillips) Magri by his side. Born May 12, 1937 in Baltimore City, Bob was the oldest of six children born to the late Samuel and Mildred Magri. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only sister, Rosalie Boland and youngest brother, Donnie Magri. He is survived by three brothers, Sam, Joe & Frank and numerous nieces & nephews.

Bob graduated from Calvert Hall in 1956. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1961. Following his military service, he attended the University of Baltimore, receiving a B.S. degree in Accounting.

Bob was a hard worker and enjoyed a long career. He was a partner in a John Deere Construction Dealership for 15 years. Subsequently, he was the Chief Financial Officer at T.C. Simons, Inc. for 18 years and finally was employed by Gray & Sons as controller.

In addition to work, Bob was active in several organization throughout his life. In early 1970, he served as President of the Associated Equipment Distributors of Maryland. He was treasurer of the Baltimore County Highway Contractors for 15 years. In 1980, he served as President of the Eastside Athletic Club where many of his childhood friends were members. As a member of Eastside, he served on the committee that established the Ed Block Courage Award, which was originally set up with the Baltimore Colts to honor a member of the team for his courage in handling personal problems under difficult conditions. The award is now a national award in conjunction with the NFL. Bob was a past member of The Associated Italian American Charities, serving as Treasurer and Finance Committee Chairman (1983-1991) and President (1991-1992). He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1990 and the Dr. Frank C. Marino Award in 2002.

Bob was a lifetime lover of Baltimore football. He attended most Baltimore Colts games as a young adult. Later he became a Ravens fan and enjoyed attending and watching their games.
