Barry Gregory Murphy

March 29, 1945 — March 21, 2019

Barry Gregory Murphy, age 73, of Whiteford, MD passed away on March 21, 2019 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Gregory and Kathleen (Mullinix) Murphy. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he graduated from Parkville High School in 1963 and worked as a course developer and technical instructor with AT&T. He was able to enjoy 20 years of retirement, and often said it was his greatest treasure to be able to spend time home with his wife and family. He was a member of Bel Air Church of the Nazarene, and loved his church family. His faith in the Lord strengthened over the years at his church. He believed in angels and the power of prayer. He enjoyed acting in sci-fi films, loved his movie clubs, enjoyed music, watching wrestling, feeding the birds and gardening. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and all his children and grandchildren, and even though it tormented him, he took the time out of his day to watch Hallmark movies with his wife. He enjoyed all the simple things in life and wanted nothing more than to just share his life with his wife, family and friends.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Elva Murphy; son, Michael Matthew(Rosanne) Murphy; daughter, Colleen Marie (Mark) Clews; seven grandchildren, Tyler Patrick (Tiffany) Wann, Cameron Michael Wann, Shannon Rose Murphy, Grace Adelaide Clews, Annie Marie Clews, Matthew Murphy Clews and Joshua Thomas Clews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at The Bel Air Church of the Nazarene. Military Honors will be held at 10:45 am followed by a Memorial Service at 11 am with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the American Heart Association-Maryland, 217 E. Redwood Street, 23rd floor, Baltimore, MD 21201.
