Albert F. Vitek

Albert F. Vitek, age 88, of Joppa, MD, died on March 27, 2011 at Autumn Assisted Living in Bel Air, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Albert Wenceslaus and Lillian Brosh Vitek, and was devout husband for 55 years to the late Jane Catherine Consentino Vitek.

Mr. Vitek, son of a Baltimore City beat cop, grew up in the city and spent summers on Middle River where he met Jane, his future wife. He was a decorated Army veteran of WW2, having served in the struggle in France and Germany, and as MP in Heidelberg. At home, he was a skilled aircraft fabricator at Martin's, producing war planes and later other types. A lifetime member of Iron Workers Local 16, he worked on big projects like the Key Bridge and Peach Bottom nuclear plant. Always a DIY-er, as was most of his generation, he built his own homes, rebuilt cars with his sons and passed on practical skills to help them through life. He would say, you won't have much if you have to pay someone to do everything.

A resident of Harford County for 50 years, he enjoyed spending summers on the water with his sons, fishing and crabbing. Later, he and his wife had property in Ocean City, MD where they would spend summers on the water.

Mr. Vitek is survived by his sons, Gregory A. Vitek and wife, Lauren, of Gainesville, GA, Richard A. Vitek of Joppa, MD, and Rodney F. Vitek and wife, Joann, of Highland, MD; sister, Dorothy M. Wrangham of Baltimore; and grandchildren, Alan G. Vitek and wife, Lauren, of Anderson, SC; Brannan P. Vitek of Gainesville, GA, and Bennett O. and Lillian M. Vitek of Highland, MD.
