Addie B. Cotton

January 8, 1923 — June 13, 2019

Addie B. Cotton was born on January 8, 1923 in Badin, NC. She was called home to rest on June 13, 2019 at the age of 96 at Sterling Care in Belcamp, MD.
She was the daughter of the late Charlie Howell and Carrie Hines. As a young adult she moved to Philadelphia, PA, where she later married Bernard Cotton, Sr. in 1955. When she retired from Hancock Paper Mill, she moved to Holly Springs, NC where she resided for almost 26 years. Ms. Addie B. was a Christian woman who loved to sing, praise and worship at church in her pearls and Sunday best. She enjoyed building fellowship in her community and would pick up children in the neighborhood to take them to church and other recreational activities. She loved her family unconditionally and enjoyed having all of her grandchildren for the summer. She knew the value of saving and tithing, allowing her to be compassionate and generous to those in need. She would not only give you her last dime, but she also prayed extensively for others and opened her home to family and friends. Her home was often the safe haven and hub for her family and many friends to gather, fellowship and create lasting memories.
In 2014, her illness progressed making it difficult for Addie B. to care for herself. She moved to Maryland to be cared for by her daughter and other relatives. Even through sickness and health, her faith never wavered.
Ms. Cotton is survived by her children, Bernard Cotton, Jr., Carrie Griffin, Vergie Johnson, Russell Cotton, Tony Cotton and Carolyn Thomas. Two daughters-in-law, Carol and Marlo; two sons-in-law, Emmett and Bobby; brother, Richard Hines; grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Bernard Cotton, Sr. and Betty Jean Harris; her son, Kevin Cotton; sisters, Catherine Hines and Ruth Adams; brothers, Woodrow Hines and Leonard Hines; grandson, Costello Cotton.
