Aaron Paul Hundley

July 31, 1963 — May 30, 2021

Aaron Paul Hundley, age 57, of Crownsville, Maryland passed away suddenly on May 30, 2021 in his family home.

Born in San Jose, California on July 31, 1963, Aaron was the son of Roy and Nancy (Dowdy) Hundley. While he was born in California, he spent most of his childhood and early adult life in Montgomery County, Maryland where he attended Redland Junior High School and Colonel Zadok Magruder High School. He grew up with four siblings, including his closest brother in age, David Hundley, an older sister, Rebecca Gouzoulis, and older brother, R. L. Hundley. An active child, Aaron played numerous sports including baseball and football. As he got older, he took up boxing and golf. Despite being the baby of his family, he was fiercely protective of his mother and sister. He was a family jokester who aimed to keep the peace.

When describing his school days, he would often mention in stories how shrimpy but scrappy he was. He recounted standing up for his fellow classmates, especially those that could not stand up for themselves. From a young age, he had an entrepreneurial spirit—he created a job for himself by convincing a shopping center owner to allow him to pick up trash in the parking lot before and after school for $20 a week and this is just one of many examples of Aaron finding creative opportunities to make money—or, as he would say, “generate revenue.”

In his young adult life, he met his wife of over 32 years, Wendy Hundley. Aaron and Wendy married on July 9, 1988 in Baltimore, Maryland. Four years later on June 17, 1992, Aaron and Wendy welcomed their first and only child, Elaina Hundley. For Aaron, his daughter’s birth marked one of the happiest days of his life. The couple was a team from the very beginning, both as parents and partners. Throughout Aaron’s career, Wendy served as a cheerleader, supporter and even assistant, often handling the logistical details of his work. His drive was immeasurable and she supported him every step of the way so he could more seamlessly pursue and achieve his many lofty goals.

Aaron attended the University of Maryland, but while education was important to him, many of the skills he would need for the rest of his life were inherent in who he was. In fact, he was recruited at a very young age to work at the Garland Company based primarily on the character references of clients he had at Werres Corporation, the company where his sales career initially began.

At the Garland Company, a commercial building envelope manufacturer, Aaron excelled right away. He began his tenure with the corporation on January 15, 1991 and received the Soliday Trainee of the Year award that very same year. From there, he won award after award: he was a part of the Owner’s Club from 1993 – 2010 (18 years), earned the Chrostowski Achievement Award in 1996, 1998 – 2014, 2017 (19 years), the Hogan Consistency Award 1993 – 2019 (26 years). He was the highest achieving salesman in his company for numerous years running and when he was not first, he was usually in the top three and consistently in the top five. He received Top Salesman in 1998, 2002 and from 2004 – 2008, totaling seven times. Additionally, he received the John Wise Medallion in 1998, 2002 and from 2004 - 2008, he entered the Rolex Club starting in 1998 and the Masters Club beginning in 2002. In 2007 he reached “Pinnacle,” a recognition of outstanding sales numbers. He was also a part of the Circle of Honor starting in 1997. Unfortunately, due to his untimely death, he never had the opportunity to retire from Garland, but he did receive the company’s recognition of his ”30 years of Commitment, Loyalty and Friendship” there through an Eagle designation. For him, Garland was more than an employer; Garland was a family.

In addition to his accomplishments at Garland, he also managed to achieve his personal goal of starting his own company, Infrastructure Innovations, which offered a curated portfolio of sustainable solutions for commercial facilities. Additionally, he was a partial owner of Clearworld.

Aaron worked tirelessly at his illustrious career, but it was not all work and no play. Known to many as the life of the party, he loved to entertain and travel—he especially enjoyed being near the ocean. Additionally, he spent his free time playing golf, going deep-sea fishing, attending football games and watching sports at home. But what he liked to do most of all when he had extra time was to spend it with his family: Wendy, Elaina, extended family and their pets. He took both Wendy and Elaina traveling, to try new restaurants and explore new places locally. He was endlessly thinking of new experiences to expose them to, including driving race cars at Daytona with Wendy and including Elaina on deep sea fishing trips.

While Aaron was incredibly successful at work, a friend to all and a devoted husband, he was also an intensely dedicated father. From attending Elaina’s school functions and participating in family holidays to coaching her basketball team, teaching her to drive and helping her through the process of purchasing her first home, he was never short on time for her. He took an interest in her hobbies, her career and even doted on both of her cats. Finally, he bestowed upon her his work-ethic, sense of humor and thoughtfulness. His strength of character and legacy will live on in her.

While he was proud of his professional accolades, he was also an incredibly down-to-earth person who befriended everyone and was loved by so many. He was remarkably generous with his time, money and expertise and made a lasting impression on nearly everyone he met. Aaron lit up and filled a room like no one else with his infectious smile and powerful voice. He was always “wheeling and dealing” or “working and perking and having a ball.” His loved ones take comfort in the many fond memories they have of him and the many stories they have to share.

Aaron is predeceased by his mother Nancy Hundley, his father, Roy L. Hundley and his brother, David Hundley.

Aaron is survived by his wife, Wendy Hundley; daughter, Elaina Hundley; siblings, Roy L. Hundley Jr. and Rebecca Gouzoulis; his siblings in-law, Cindy and Dave Kippax and Rich and Lori Anderson; his stepfather Bill Broschart, his parents in-law that consider him a son, Lee and Joyce Anderson; his nieces and nephews, Chris Gouzoulis, Kristy Hundley, Michael Hundley, Melissa Leroy, Emily Payne, Andrew Hundley and Nate Anderson. He is also survived by his two dogs Lily and Lucy Hundley and grand-cat Gryffin Hundley.
