Edward Lawrence Kimmel, age 68, of Joppa, MD, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, after a long battle with heart disease on November 4, 2012 at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. Born in Edgewood, MD, he was the son of the late William Dexter and Nellie Beatrice Skillman Kimmel. Born and raised in Joppa, he was a 1961 graduate of Edgewood High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a lifetime member of Joppa Volunteer Fire Company where he served actively for 30 years. He was the longest tenured employee for the Harford County Government, where he worked for over 47 years and was the Chief of Facilities of Water and Sewage. Mr. Kimmel gave his life to others through his volunteer service and was a father figure to many. He was on the Harford County Library Board of Trustees for ten years, participated in the Edgewood Boosters Club and was an Eagle Scout who was Scout Master for the Boy Scouts at Mountain Christian. He loved his Baltimore Colts and Ravens. Mr. Kimmel coached baseball, football and softball at Edgewood Parks and Rec for over 30 years, as well as at Edgewood High School. Most importantly, Ed Kimmel was the most giving, caring and loving husband, father, brother and friend to all that knew him. He was the Greatest Man and will be forever missed but never forgotten.
