Raya M. Cook

January 28, 1945 — September 15, 2018

Raya M. Cook, age 73, of Abingdon, Maryland passed away on September 15, 2018 at Bel Air Health and Rehabilitation in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Jackson, Michigan, she was the daughter of Leslie Irving and Orma Fern (Weber) Steinbach. She majored in nursing at the University of Michigan prior to transferring to Western Michigan University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education. Her college summers were spent working as a respiratory therapy technician. As a school teacher, she especially enjoyed teaching second grade for the Sault Ste. Marie Public School System. She was a businesswoman- owning and operating Weber's Floral & Gift along with corporate experience as Vice President and Treasurer of Cook & Cook, Ltd. She also enjoyed her time as an information receptionist for the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce and sales associate for Das Gift Haus. Her interests included flying private airplanes, playing piano, singing in church choirs, reading, traveling, and keeping personal stats for her favorite baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles. She was a Presbyterian Elder and member of First Presbyterian Church in Bel Air, where she was also part of the Worship Committee and was in an active circle of Presbyterian Women. Early background concentrations were Honored Queen of Job's Daughters International, National Thespians, Speech Club President, Homecoming Princess, and Class Treasurer- 2 years.

Ms. Cook is survived by daughter, Dr. Jillian S. Chapman; sons, Devin B. Cook and Wesley S. Cook and their father, Lynnwood C. Cook; second family, Derek Chapman, Reene Cook, Maureen Cook; grandchildren, Felicia Morat and husband, Sean, Devin Chapman, Paige Chapman, Tim Cook, Eve Cook, John Cook; great-granddaughter, Zoë Morat; twin brother, Jon Fredric Steinbach; and extended loving family.
