Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" Sandmeier

Gerald "Jerry" Sandmeier, age 68, of Churchville, MD passed away on November 10, 2017 at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Born in Ipswich, SD, he was the son of Ruben Jacob and Darlene Esther (Fischer) Sandmeier. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served at Aberdeen Proving Ground during the Vietnam War. He was self-employed as a trucking owner/operator since 1991 and prior to that he worked at Churchville Garage. He liked to fix things and anything that someone was throwing away; he could find a use for after fixing it! He loved to be with his grandchildren, friends and family, and videotaping the family so he could have the memories. He also liked to garden.

Mr. Sandmeier is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy Ellen Sandmeier (nee Cockerham); two sons, Michael (Heather) R. Sandmeier of Bel Air and Jeremy (Michelle) W. Sandmeier of Edgewood; grandson, Alexander J. Sandmeier; brother, Warren J. Sandmeier of Huron, SD; and sister, Edie (Tom Porter) Sandmeier of Crystal, MN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Devon M. Sandmeier.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living Legacy of Maryland, 1730 Twin Springs Road, Suite 200, Halethorpe, MD, 21227.
