George T. Watson

George T. Watson, Sr. (Tom), age 91, passed away on June 28, 2018, at his home in Bel Air, MD. Born in Sparta, NC, on June 5, 1927, he was the son of the late Robert Cleveland and Delia Mae (Irwin) Watson and was the husband for 66 years to the late Anna Christine (Elliott) Watson. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WW II. He was a lifetime member of the Whiteford American Legion and a longtime member of Dublin United Methodist Church. Tom retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground after 36 years in Government service with a career at the Ballistics Research Lab (BRL).

Tom’s career at APG included summer long projects at White Sands, NM, Medicine Hat, CN and in France. Tom was also a private pilot; he and Anna enjoyed their many trips out of Phillips Army Airfield.

Tom and his brother built one of the first cabins at Broad Creek, where the family enjoyed many weeks and an untold number of weekends swimming, water skiing and spending time together. Tom and Anna enjoyed traveling including driving cross country with the family pulling their travel trailer with their station wagon. After retirement, a motor home was frequently used traveling throughout the country. Tom and Anna enjoyed square dancing with the Dublin Dancers, and also traveled by motorcycle to destinations including Florida and New Mexico.

Mr. Watson Sr. is survived by two sons, Barry S. Watson Sr. and Gail (Thuman) of Fallston, and Phillip R. Watson and Sara (Norman) of Street; and daughter-in-law Sue (Tucker) Watson of Fallston, and by Donna Panzer, his "adopted" daughter. Also survived by five grandchildren, Barry Steven Watson Jr. and Katie (Sherwood) of Coral Spring, FL, Leslie B. Watson and Dave Christopher of Pasadena, George T. Watson III and Lauren (Poe) of Eldersburg, Casey P. Watson of Philadelphia, and Adam C. Watson and Audrey (Lawrence) of North East, and four great-grand-children Chloe Watson, Ashton & Braden Tucker, Riley Smith and George T. Watson IV.

In addition to his wife Anna, Tom was also predeceased by a son George T. Watson Jr., brothers John Watson and Roy Watson, and sister Audrey (Watson) Graybeal.
